my 2wire modem has an orange light for the broadband connection. Theres 3 lights and all should be green (power, broadband link, and local network). My power and local network is working fine but the broadband is orange. In order for it to be green i have to configure it by going to http://homeportal/setup or http://192.168.1.254 or http://172.16.0.1 the problem is that I cannot connect to any of these. The modem is suppose to be able to connect to homeportal/setup since thats the only way to configure my settings to get the broadband link green. Anyone have suggestions on how to fix this?

wesinls, i tried what you said but there were two TCP/IP things, one was TCP/IPv6 and one was TCP/IPv4. The v4 let me change the settings but nothing happened. On the IPv6, it said the network adress was invalid and would not let me change it.

First find out if your getting an IP in one of those ranges - A 172 or a 192 IP. Click Start run and type in CMD and hit enter. The type ipconfig and hit enter - If you get a 172 IP see if you can (in the same cmd window) ping that IP - ping space 172.16.0.1 - If you get a 192 IP see if you can ping the IP ping 192.168.1.254. If you dont get a 172 or 192 ip when you run the ipconfig command try and assisgn your computer an ip.

Go into your network connections and right click on your local are connection and choose properties. Look for tcp/ip in the list and double click. don't worry about changing setting and all the other stuff. reset the connection up. by doing this, it will make the proper changes and setup setting for you. go to the control panel and select the internet connection wizard. on the page with options, select the last one that says LAN. this is your type of connection. follow the rest for the lan settings. don'e change anything but put the mark inthe dot to select it. after all this, you'll reboot your sytem and should be online once the computer is back up. if not, then on the back of the modem is a reset button. hold this in for about 10seconds and wait for it to boot back up. now you can get online.
