He is smart not to want to go back to Kentucky. The fans treat coaches terrible in Lexington. If the coach doesn't get the team a championship every few years the fans call for his resignation. Right now, the only thing that Kentucky basketball has is tradition and Pitino has already made his chapter in that tradition.

Rick Pitino got the word that Kentucky was in no way considering asking him back, so he was smart for announcing what he did, but it was only after he knew that he would not be asked back.

There was no way he could top what he did the first time, so in one sense that is smart. I think he wants to win Big East and NCAA titles at Louisville and hasn't done either yet, so I think that's his current goal. I think the fans in Lexington would accpet the fact he spent a few years at Louisville if they thought he could win games.
