can neighbors get on my computer?

Your wireless network should always listed as the default connection since it's the one you will use. It's perfectly safe if you change the default SSID name to something else and enable WPE or WPA encryption. If you have a choice pick WPA because it's more secure than WPE. Your neighbors can only connect to your network if you don't setup the password for it (wpe or wpa).

this only means it is your computers default access point....
and most likely it is NOT safe.
to make it safe; turn on WPA encryption (with INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH PASSPHRASE); turn off the wi fi units UPnP;
change the wi fi default administrator name AND give that an I.S. passphrase; this should get you started..... note that there is a ms-hotfix for the default wireless laptop settings that will broadcast all kinds of sniffable info about your laptop.

you need to enable security on your router othrwise YES the neighbours can use you connection to surf for free !!!!
