Check into the process of photosynthesis, it's pretty darn amazing.

Green plants "breath in" CO2 (carbon dioxide), use it in the process of photosynthesis and expel oxygen as a waste product. We humans breathe the oxygen and expel CO2, so the process continues.

Plants and trees are the only things that produce oxygen...oops, there are some bacteria that convert certain substances into oxygen, but it is the plants and trees that carry that burden...makes that crackling fire in the woodstove seem different now, doesn't it?

Yes, this is due to the aerobic response of the plant going through the process of photosynthesis. It absorbs carbon dioxide, co2, and converts it to C and 02. They then release o2 into the air as a byproduct.
