If he doesn't need ankle braces for any other sports (running, soccer, jumping, hopscotch...) I don't see any reason for him to need them in baseball.

BTW....Gary Sheffield of the Detroit Tigers is a bit bow-legged, and he seems to do just fine. Maybe have your son watch him, just for encouragement.

Good luck, and make sure that he has fun, and learns the game.

The braces would help support his ankles so that he doesn't roll them or sprain them...but I would talk to your doctor about all that before you start putting into his head that he has to have those braces to play. My 8 year old plays baseball and while he has trouble with his groin muscle, the doctor recommended that we leave it for now because he will rely on the brace and at his age it is not necessary. He might not need the braces if he has good bone structure and strong bones...just because they are skinny doesn't mean that they aren't strong. Good luck with your season!

The ankle braces might give him a little extra support. I would talk to the Dr about it, but he is probably ok.

I just found out today that my 13y/o has Osgood-Schlatter's Disease.....http://familydoctor.org/135.xml

If he doesn't have any signs of pain nor discomfort then I really don't see a problem.

If you think that it could be or cause a problem in the future then check with a physician and get his opinion.

yea, honus wagner, the flying dutchman and one of baseball's greatest hitters and fielders was bow legged. if he's a stong kid, he'll overcome that weakness.
