It would have prolonged and probably stopped the crappy EMO bands of today. But If Cobain were still here they would have broke up around 1997...with the constant drug fighting between bandmates and Courtnry Love and the drug use...Cobain would have been in more rehab centers and his music wouldn't get produced.

I don't think it would really be any different than it is now. The only difference is that maybe there would be more Nirvana being played, but I honestly think Nirvana would have broken up regardless of Kurt's death.

I think that we would have gotten to the same place eventually, but the whole grunge scene combined with the unexpected suicide under suspicious circumstances, i think the whole emo scene got a boost, it got recognized and became more main stream. Not that Nirvana was emo, but they were definitely an influence to the genre.
