A recent newspaper article suggests that American Marines would have opened fire rather than be captured... if they did that in the same situation as the British soldiers were in, they would probably have died... which would have led to reprisals of some kind, it's not as if the US is chums with Iran right now.
If American Marines were actually captured though, I think the US would respond with much more force than the UK has. Sort of, release them now, or...

Maybe the British and Americans should ask Iran what they would do if we kidnapped 15 of their sailors. And then to add insult to injury try them and parade them blindfolded in our streets(as done in 2004).
Iran is asking for a war, it won't start one though because then they would get no sympathy from fellow Islamic nations. 'So lets really piss the west off!!'

AS A FORMER US SAILOR I CAN SAY THE US MARINES WOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN CAPTURED. WHEN NORTH KOREA KIDNAPPED OUR SAILORS WE DID NOT TO ANYTHING BUT ROLL OVER BUT WE GOT THEM BACK THIS A DIFFERENT AGE AND TIME.
