My hubby is a mechanic and when he does work on the side, he tells people to get a quote somewhere else and then he does it for half of the quoted price. People see then that they are getting a deal and are pretty happy with his work.
In my profession, as a massage therapist, I see private clients for about $30 per hour as opposed to the $60-$80 they would spend in a salon. It's a little less than I make at the clinic, but then I also get to work from home and avoid traffic and gas cost.
It's all about percieved value and what will make it worth your time.

This is what you do.Take into account the tools your using.Gas for the mower ect. and trash bags, carts or whatever you use to get the job done. Then you take account of your time and knowledge and what's that worth. For me I'm a pro.I've been certified and hold masters and associates degrees the fields of botany, landscape, turf management and so on.I charge about $165 an hour.So for you. With five acres, hedges, edging.I would say $45-50 an hour.Or ask your mom's friend how she paid the previous guys to work if it's higher than $50 than go $10-15 lower than that. You should be fine.

Figure how much time it will take and charge about $15 to $30/hr. The higher amount if you supply the equipment and gas.
Call a service that does that and ask them for a bid, based on the amount of work. Back off that by 10%

Charge what anyone would charge .... do not back down in price because it is your mom's friend ... see if you can find anyone in your area who does similar work ... and she cannot be poor, with 5 acres of land .... be sure you get what you deserve ...

What is fair is at least $20 an hour. You really wouldn't want to do all that work for less, and that is about average.
