Use a Mr. Clean eraser. They are awesome. I have three kids and can't really afford to buy them new shoes all the time. I found that these erasers work wonders!!! You can get them anywhere, especially Walmart. You just put water on it and rub away. No chemicals. I promise it'll work and you'll love your Vans FOREVER!!!!

if the uppers are canvas, you could make a paste from a mild dry detergent and a bit of water, then use a toothbrush to apply and scrub the desired areas, then rinse and allow to dry

You can try rubbing alcohol, but using shoe whitener is the best way. or you can throw them in the washing machine (always works 4 me).

use oxy clean and scrub with a toothbrush. Rinse and put them in the dryer.
