If it takes over 60pts to beat a below .500 team by two points that's not impressive to me!

Dear Tech1,

First of all-- what he did this past week was amazing and something that is just not heard of in the NBA (only Wilt ever had a longer streak of consecutive 50 games).

Regardless of the below .500 records it's the NBA. He scored against some good defenders and we know in the NBA anyone can beat anyone on any night.

Remember Kobe dropped 63 in 3 quarters against the Mavericks last year. So it's not like he says oh we're playing a crappy team let's exploit them. The thing is he can sometimes seemingly go off at will- and he's a danger to do that to any defense. He dropped 50 on the Suns in the playoffs remember, but the Lakers lost that games and wins is what matters.

Yes the Lakers did not win by a lot, but that is more a statement about the Lakers personnel. i think if you exchanged Kobe for any other player in the league with teh same cast that the Lakers have- none of them would have the Lakers with a better record than what they have now.

Also when he's not on the court the Lakers average losing 7.3 points (i think Nash and Nowitzki are like at 2.3). In other words- his team is most hurt when he's not on the court. If you took Nash off of the Suns they still have a good enough team to be a playoff team (Marion, Stoudemire, Diaw, Barbosa). If you took Kobe off the Lakers they have: (Parker (d-league player really, Walton (avg), Brown (lifetime underachiever), Odom (good player- but never not a primary option as an all-star). The truth is if you took out Kobe- the Lakers might have the worst starting line up in the league. That shows his value to his team.

I would have to say that Kobe is getting many more MVP votes because of the fac that Kobe scored 60+ points. The sad part is not that Kobe is getting so many more votes but the fact that the rest of the team could not account for more points. It is team that could only generate 40 points which lead L.A. to only win by seven. Here is another way to look at it, if Kobe scored 30 pts, then L.A. would have lost by 26, no have won by 6. I think he rightfully should gain MVP votes, he deserve them. It is not like Kobe has not played like an MVP this year, if Kobe was not in L.A., they would be ranked beside the Sonics and the trailblazers. Lets face it, if Nash was not in Pheonix, the Suns could still get into the playoffs, with Kobe, the Lakers are the Celtics. With that in mind I think you can see why he is getting MVP votes.

Kobe is just taking advantage of these games. Hey, the below .500 teams he played were not terrible teams. All four are still in the hunt for the playoffs, and any playoff team is not a bad team. How many people expect Kobe to score 50 on an above .500 team though, because I think he understands that in order to beat the better teams, an overall team effort is needed. However, I for one do not really think that he deserves the MVP award. Though he is playing great basketball, he is not the really the player that is desperately needed and gets the team chemisty flowing. I have said it before, the Lakers have been able to win (against the Suns for one) without Kobe Bryant. Honestly, Dirk Nowinztki is playing amazing basketball and has helped his team become the winningest team in the NBA, but the Mavericks are definately capable of playing without Dirk. Steve Nash, on the other hand, is essential for the Suns chemistry and (during his injury) showed how much the Suns needed him for without him, the Suns just fell apart. Kobe Bryant is playing great, if not amazing basketball, but he is still undeserving of the MVP award, which is a two man race b/t Dirk and Nash.

i don't think of its that straightforward, as in basic terms choosing a set # of video games that could make Kobe greater worth of the MVP than LeBron. In all honesty, the seasons that they are having, they the two are deserving and that i can make a case for the two of them getting the MVP. ordinary, i might say LeBron has the part, yet i might unquestionably say the Celtics overall performance over something of the season could be certain the MVP in basic terms as a lot because of the fact the Lakers and Cavs. Its fairly inevitable that the Lakers will win the West. If LeBron can not lead the Cavs to the final checklist in the east, extraordinarily with Boston playing devoid of KG for awhile, he loses an excellent variety of his declare to the MVP.

whether people like it or not, kobe bryant is recognised by man nba scouts as the best player in the L.

he is the player who takes the shot when the shot is needed, hes the player who makes the defensive stop when the game is on the line and hes the player the lakers are rebuilding around.

i know there is a lot of hate towards kobe bryant, but most who know basketball understand that his basketball ability is what pushed him apart from other SG in the L.

yes he has gone on a scoring spree. but lets remember, the 4 games he scored more then 50 points, his team won. on the team he is in now, he needs to score for his team to win. there are many comparisons to what he is doing, to what jordan did.

jordan led the L in scoring and wasnt wining championships. Kobe led the L in scoring and wasnt winning championships. so now kobe has decided to get his very average team involved. he has dropped off in his scoring (he could easily average 34ppg with the amount of injuries) and improved in his other areas.

scoring all those points and barely winning may not be impressive, but consider his team mates and the season they are having. whether we all want to believe it or not, kobe is most likely the best player in the L. hes clutch, not affraid of taking the big shot, durable and showing this year that hes also a leader.

you make a good point but mvp is an individual honor and kobe is continuing to put up great individual statistics, and even though the wins are close they are wins, and certainly he is the difference in every single one of them...however, i don't think he will or should win the mvp, because nowitzki and nash make more of a difference for their teams, considering that neither of their teams would be championship caliber without either one of them, respectively, while kobe makes the lakers a playoff team rather than a cellar dweller

thats exactly how I feel man. people worship him for putting 50 points against Portland. its absurd. Thats the thing I noticed. Not the 65 points, but the fact that the Lakers only won by like 3.

I agree with you..as i remember, most if not all of his 50 plus points came against teams with lowly record. take the 81 point game against the Raptors last year as an example.
