One of the best ways to do this is to make a parachute. You can take a plastic garbarge bag, string, and duct tape. Just tape about 8 strings to the garbage bag around a perimeter, then combine them together at the other end, which connects to your load (the egg). In addition, I would put the egg in a padded container. Perhaps put it in a strong tupperware container filled with jello (so that the egg sits on top rather than on the bottom). If that is too heavy for the parachute, consider a stack of dozens of napkins or toilet paper.

Try taking two styrofoam cups and putting something like cotton in them, make sure to pack the cotton in. Then put the egg in the middle and duck tape the cups together, the cotton and styrofoam should cushion the impact. Whatever you decide make sure you test it out before you get to school so that you know it works.

this one was my fave:
Many small balloons inside a ZipLock bag, then wrapped with Saran Wrap to keep in place. Don't blow up the balloons to full, but stuff around the egg.
