It's probably the power supply. If the fan is no longer running thats probably what it is. Stop turning it on and off until you have the problem fixed. If it does over heat it will become more expensive to fix.

well there are many issues that could be occuring. One your fan or cooling stystem in your computer may be broken. So your computer may be heating up and shutting off, Or two you may have a virus such as a worm that is shutting down and hacking apart your registry like swiss cheese. It's probally the second one if weird things are happening such as setting changes on your computer you didn't make. One way to tell is to bring up task manager and look for processes you don't recognize.I'd have to save the best way to tell is go to microsoft and get windows bit defender. If the fan or cooling unit is the problem buy a new one.Don't put it off.Heat is the computers worst enemy

If you are running win XP you should be able to access the BIOS and see the internal temp of the CPU. I had the same problem with my HP, found out I was running 30 degrees above normal operating temperature and it was a built in safety to shut the computer down. I replaced the heat sink compound and was good to go.

99 % of the time its the power supply or the CPU fan. Turn off the machine - Take the side cover off - then turn on the machine - Check to make sure your power supply fan and or your CPU fan is running. If either one is not or seem to be running slow - replace them. Both are easy to take off - dont be scared!

Take whichever one to Fry's or best buy - or someother location and buy a power supply - Dont be fooled into buying a $100 plus power supply - You can probably get one for under 50.

It is possible it is over-heating. If it is a laptop, make sure it is on a flat surface and nothing is blocking any of the vents or fans.

If it is a desktop, you may want to clean the dust out of the case with canned air or similar.

right click my computer and go to properties, click screensaver and there should be a button below labeled power or something! click it and the setting should be here! if you checked all settings, and nothing! your computer could be overheating! check the fans and make shure it is getting air!

over heating, bad ram, bad hard drive, short...you should probably find a friend that's good with computers to help you out. better to not go to a computer "fixing" place cause they over charge. but as a last resort go to one. finding a friend is def. your best bet.
