the launch price of the ps2 was 299. I think it dropped to 199 either late 2001 or early 2002

The price did actually drop a little before the slims... Somewhere in 2002 or 3 was when prices fell to $200 or so
In 2000 and 2001, it was $300

Ity cost 299. and the price didn't drop until I believe 2004 or so when the ps2 slim came out.

I think it went like this:
2000: 299.99 (it was released in Oct. 2000).
2001: 299.99 (1 year later, so no price drop)
2002: 199.99 (About 1.5 years later, a 100 buck price drop)
2003: 179.99
2004: 149.99
2006: 129.99
2007: 129.99 (as of today)
