It depends on how many gallons you are looking for, style, shape, type (plexi or glass), brand, and choice of accessories. Considering of how many different brands out there, the prices can vary. If you want to get a cheap tank you can check classifieds, flea markets or garage sales and if you lucky you can even possible get one for free. I bought a 55g All Glass Aquarium with light and everything for 50 dollars off some family on craigslist.org. If you are considering going to a petstore, the about at LEAST amount would be 2x the total gallons.

As well as hoods and aquarium, you will also have to purchase rock, testing kit, food, net, a glass scraper for cleaning the algae off the glass, and eventually a seperate tank for when you need to remove the fish for a total tank cleaning or to quarantine sick or pregnant fish, and you still have to buy fish. I suggest going to the pet store, and starting with a tropical community tank 10 gal should do you. They have kits there that will help defray the cost immensely rather than purchasing things seperately. They will help you pick out fish that are also community fish that do well together (dont eat each other usually) . Good luck and enjoy, we have graduated from a twenty gallon community tropical to a 55 gal. salt water tank which is a little harder to get started , and not for beginnners, but great fun.

A 10g aquarium costs around $10. Can cost up to $40, if you get the ''beginner's set'', that includes the filter, and other necessities for an aquarium.

A 10-gallon tank by itself costs less than $ 10. Then you have to add a stand, lamp, cover, heater, thermometer, pump and filter (or a power filter) charcoal, filter floss, food and fish. If you buy a whole package deal, most stores will give you a better price than if you bought the items separately.

The price varys from the size you want and if you want to buy the accesseries seperately. I think Wal mart sells a small one about 2 or 2.5 galon setup with the tank, top and filter included for about $25. They sell the 10 galon tanks seperately for around $10. The hood for the 10 galon is $30 for a good one, they have the cheaper ones that take 2 small lights for $20 but I haven't had much luck with one of those. You might be able to search Wal mart.com for them, I'm not sure if they have them online but our local store has many to chose from.
