If you're willing to go to Studio City then it's definitely Sushi Nozawa. It's a small place and there's generally a line. Sit at the bar and you don't have to order - the host/owner will give you whatever he feels is best ("trust me" is his motto). It is by far the best sushi I've had in LA. It is a bit pricey though - we sat at the bar and ended up spending ~$140 for two people. There's no menu at the bar and the sushi's real good, so it's easy to ring up a big bill. The ambiance is not fancy.

It's also a pretty good place for celebrity spotting; Ray Romano is there fairly often and others drop in from the studios.

in Bellevue, on Lake Bellevue. Tasty! there is also yet another eating position named i love Sushi in Beaverton, OR - that's tremendous too (serves Korean-type sushi), notwithstanding that's unrelated to the Bellevue one.

valley area got ok sushi places(2).L.A.s best and i think best place in america to have real sushi would be Mr;MIAGI on sunset.try their CALI-PLATTER,and let them mix the sauce for you.their suki is the best also .then you could go to their upper floor for music.Miagi serves better sushi than Morti or MOROTI in tokyo japan.

a lot of people go to todai.. but i think the best thing about it is the variety, not necessarily the sushi.
