I recently purchased a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am about a month ago. Upon driving the car yesterday, I noticed several things went wrong. First off, the check oil light and ABS light stays on the instrument panel all the time and both are fine. The turning signals quit working as well as the hazard flashers and the brake lights. The car kept stalling and wouldn't restart. If I let it sit for a while and try it, it fires right up. Then it will start to sputter and finally, the engine will completely die. When it does run, sometimes it's very sluggishly. If anyone could help me with this problem, I'll be forever greatful. Please shed some light on the situation.

For a homey type fix I would clean the battery connections. Then disconnect the negative cable for aproximently 10 seconds . count 1001-1002-1003 then reconnect! This will put your cars computer into a relearn mode! I hope this works for ya!

Check the ground wire between the engine and the chassis. If it's bad or missing it could cause all that stuff.

that,s not shifting going from park to drive ! all that is your going from park to drive ! shifting is when your on the road and it,s shifting gears by itself ! no your not dumb, just inexperienced ! if the check engine light is on then it could be a sensor on the transmission or it could be fuel problems ! when was the last time you got it tuned-up ? it might need a new fuel filter, air filter, plugs and plug wires !

disregard the lights and check that stuff yourself, its not worth the money to have that fixed. as for the other, it sounds like some fouling spark plugs and or faulty plug wires. change them and see what happens.
