I have an 2004 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Automatic. It seems my trasmission has been running pretty rough. When I am on the freeway doing 65mph, my rpm is at 2 1/2 almost 3. I know this is not normal. When I am sitting at a light with my foot on the brake, it's idoling at 1 1/2 rpm. I have had the car for three years and it started doing this a few months ago. I recently had the computer chip reprogramed b/c my car would jerk when it down shifted into 1st gear. I always get it serviced. I just got the transmission fluid flushed. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem?? I am afraid to take it somewhere and get riped off!

Also, when I am sitting at a light, my car sounds like it's about to die (shut off) and then all the sudden it lurches forward and the engine reves!!!

Try a tune up, fuel and air filter changes and see how it does. The fluid flush could have damaged the trans since in normal fluid changes, only 4 qt.s get replaced. Did they replace the trans fluid filter, too? Clogged fuel filters could cause the 'surging' you speak of. And try a jar or 2 of fuel injector cleaned in your gas tank, too.

i would say the problem is not in the transmission. from the info you gave it sounds like you have a bad sensor on the engine. if the engine isn't functioning correctly it could effect the way the transmission shifts. all i can recommend is you take it to a reputable shop. it could be a hundred dollar fix. good luck

Ask your friends and their parents for a reputable mechanic referal. i dont know why those idiots messed with your chip, they know nothing is wrong with the chip... i bet they didnt even toch the chip but they charged you for it. your car needs to be put on the diagnostic machine to see what codes it throws out.i belive you have a faulty sensorEGR or air.. this will fix your problem or atleast let you know for sure whats wrong.. I dont belive you need a tune-up.
