I can't say how many have gone but I have, in May 2000, while visiting friends in Bikfaya. It is the only time I've ever been abroad and was the first time I flew in a 'plane.

I found everything in the museum interesting. The film show about how they encased the treasures in concrete for protection during the war, the display about Baalbeck, (I went to see the real thing a few days later - the largest Roman temple-complex in the world. I stayed for hours, I was completely enthralled by it all. Then went into town to walk up on the largest single-dressed stone in the world - still in the very quarry from which it was hewn! Possibly too large to transport to the temple). The uncredited (or not that I could see) sarcophagus at the top of the steps outside, the one inside: of Ahiram, King of Byblos, carved with letters of the Phoenician alphabet and the sculptures; in particular the three sculpted marble bulls at the temple of Echnoun. Were do I stop?

Most of all, though, perhaps the exquisite displays of ancient Phoenician jewelry, all along the cool, airy mezzanine.

Where better to be in Beirut on a hot afternoon? Particularly while anticipating a munooshi and chilled beer in the excellent restaurant right across the square, to follow!

I long to return. The whole country is stunning. It really got under my skin. The warmth of the Lebanese welcome was almost overwhelming.

there have been many those that went for holiday in the course of the most extreme cases and they stated they did not even observe it till eventually they received calls from kin. (I propose at present, at present) i do not imagine that's a huge issue now, in reality i do not imagine you'll see some thing or face some thing.. Oh, and about places to visit, I propose you commence on the Corniche :) , solid success

I never been there...I've been to the AUB archeology museum and it has amazing things so I imagine the National museum is way better.

Yes ...spent half a day there last year. Amazing exhibits ...I loved the finely carved sarcophagus & other exhibits on the ground floor. Treasures for all to see .

I haven't been there, but I imagine that they have a lot of Phoenecian mummy sarcophogi...so I'll go with that. :-P (they were among my favorite things that I saw when I went to the Louvre last month).
