Ok so I have a 7 month old chihauhau and she is very sweet. I just got a new kitten bout 10 weeks old. I introduced them and they both arnt bothered by eachther my chi will come up and lick the kitten and the kitten just sits there he doesnt run away. I was so amazed how they just clicked. Of course I did get the occassional hiss when my chi got to rambunctious and the kitten let her know it was too much. But I am trying to establich a relationship with the kitten and my chi keeps interfering. I often play with them both at the same time and seperately. I give my chi lots of attention ut when its the kittens one on one turn my chi crys constantly and I feel bad. What should i do?

I should also mention that the kitten comes to me for attention but my chi wont leave my lap like shes possesive over me ( but not in an aggressive way ) and every time the kitten approches "us" my chi gets all in the kittens face forcing the kitten away. My chi loves my kitten she just doesnt like it when hes around me.

Continue to play with both of them. You're dealing with two distinct attitudes. Dogs enjoy a great deal of attention and cats get bored and sometimes choosing to sit on the sidelines and just watch. You can never force a relationship with a cat, you can only wait for it to happen. Pat her often and let her on your lap but don't deny the puppy the attention he needs.

You will get alone one on one time with the kitten, but if you ignore the pup to play with the kitten it may send the message the kitten is more important than the pup. The kitten will come to you when he/she wants some attention. If you play withe two at the same time they will feel like equals and become good friends.

Give your dog a toy when you are with the kitten so it is distracted. You could also go in a separate room with the kitten, without the dog knowing.

she's jelous of the kitten. put her down on the floor when the kitten comes over and she tries to push it away. she'll get the point that if she can't share you then she wont be able to be with you either if the kitten can't.
