Seriously, why are all these professionals and equipment needed. Why can't you just dig a big hole, line it with concrete, fill it with water, and stick in a portable pump?

Why wouldn't it work?

It has to be waterproofed on both sides. The inside is obvious because you don't want water leaching out. But if water in the soil around the pool gets into tiny cracks and nicks and then it freezes the concrete will soon crack and crumble from the outside in.

The water would simply seep through the concrete. The concrete would also be negatively affected by the pool chemicals..... Best to leave it to a professional.

because the sides of the earth would fall in, the concrete not only has to hold the water in, but also be strong enough to hold the earth back. essentially you are right though, all it is, is a hole in the ground which is lined and waterproofed
