You can argue that slaves do most of the labor, and therefore benefits everybody else. Remember, at this time people believed slaves to be sub-human, so this would be a legilimate argument. You can also argue that by enslaving them, you are actually bringing the benefits of civilization and Christianity to these "savages."

I would not argue this. I would tell your teacher that this topic supports continued oppression. It is not valuable and relies on false implications. Anything you argue in favor of slavory can be ruled out quickly when you look at the brutality of it.
I hope you do not have any African American students in your class because you can bring up some serious intergenerational trauma if you use this debate.
This is not culturally competent and is not appropriate.

A slave owner with no conscience or love for his fellow man could argue that the entire world economy would collapse without slavery and then every one, including the slaves, would starve to death from the ensuing famine or at the very least be in much worse conditions that they are in now, including the slaves.

The bible was written 2,000 years after Christ's death and no one I know of has ever heard God say slavery was alright! The bible is not very accurate!
Tough topic with no real argument! Good luck!

Points to touch on:
1. Historical Precedence, etc. biblical references, Greeks, Romans, native Americans, African Tribes enslaving other African tribes.
2. Cheap labor to bolster the Plantation economy, which would have collapsed if paid/indentured labor were used.
3. Bolster the maritime trades using the slaves-molasses-rum triangle.

There has always been slavery,
They are inferior to us,
It is teaching savages how to be civilized,
They cannot be trusted and must be controlled,
The bible says that it is ok,
They must have done something to deserve being a slave,
It is necessary for the economy.

One thing I would ask of my slave masters, is to put yourself in my place and allow me to sell you or treat you anyway I want, like I'm your property, and see if you would continue to own slaves. Try it one time!!! How did God favor slavery, even though he talked of handmaids and servents in the Bible, he gave us all freedom to choose what path we go and I do not believe he meant for one man to own another. I think he meant for a man to work and another to pay wages to the man that works for him, not as a slave, but as an employee.
