If you think you have the answer, please explain why thunderstorms occur predominantly during this time period.
I already know that they occur because of moisture and a warm/cold front, so that information would be redundant.

They occur at any time, day or night.

BUT... predominately in the afternoon, when the heat from the sun is at its highest, and the most moisture has been taken up into the thunderclouds.

They do occur at anytime, but they are more apt to occur at the end of a hot summer day. The heat of the sun raises huge bubbles of hot moist air as it evaporates water on the ground. These bubbles rise up and form bigger and bigger cumulus clouds which may trigger a thunderstorm. Other T-storms occur when a warm front hits a cold front, and this can be anytime.

This one time it was about 4am and we lived in Laramie Wyo, and there was this really bad thunderstorm.. The lightning was so close that as soon as it flashed the thunder was heard and the whole house shook. It was awesome.

Oh, yeah, it can happen any time. An.Y.Tim.e.
