Your computer could have a lot of stuff loaded onto it. I could have very little RAM, your C:\ disk space could be low. There are many possibilities. Hope I helped.

You might try eliminating the programs that startup and put an Icon in your System Tray (by the clock). Click on Start, then Run, then type msconfig and go to the Startup folder. Uncheck those programs that you really don't need at startup and then click apply. You will be asked to restart your computer. Also, temporarily shutdown your Virus, Spyware and Firewall programs, if you have them, and try your typing again. Be sure you are not Online when you do this with your Anti programs in the OFF state.

I think you have worm virus, which eat your resources. What you need to do when this problem occur, press "Ctl+Alt+Del" then go to task manager , check which process eat up your memory, kill that process. If speed back to normal, use Virus scan kill that virus.
