Can I grow red-skinned potatoes and yams in Northeast Iowa?

I've never grown Yams, but you should have no problem with red skinned potatoes. I grow them every year and they are sooo good. I plant Norland, and weather permitting, plant them around Good Friday. I'm in Central IL.
