starting teachers make an average of $35,000 per year.

You can earn raises two different ways once you are in a district. Every year your lovely union makes sure you get a standard of living raise, which is usually a very small amount (maybe a little more than $1,000). Going back to graduate school for a Masters Degree sometimes increases your pay by $10,000. Then there is Masters plus (which is more graduate credits on top of the Masters) and then your PhD or E.D.

It depends on what state they live in, if they have advanced degrees and how many years of experience they have. The scale can go from $30,000 to $90,000. That may sound like a lot, but about half of each months paycheck is taken away by union dues, out of pocket health care expenses, mandatory retirement deductions and taxes etc.

Connecticut is definitly not the highest paid state for teaching. It costs alot more to live in Connecticut than almost anywhere else. Costs varies from town to town. In my town teachers get paid 45,000 dollars a year. In the next town they get paid 60,000 dollars a year.

I live in the highest paying state (Connecticut) and I make less than $50,000 a year with my master's degree and 4 years experience. That should give you an idea.

About... $50,000

But it really depends on your degree (the higher, the more you can get paid), the level of education (elem., middle, high, college...) and what kind of teacher you are.
