I have not have been given any objective of stomping on everyone else's ideals, yet they are stomping on mine. i'm a christian, too, and there are churches available that is keen to do a gay wedding ceremony (Episcopalian, Unitarian, MCC, and others) and reformed temples could additionally do it for Jewish gay couples. not all christian churches think of that's a sin for 2 adult men (or 2 women persons) to be in love, and help their desirable to be married. The conservatives, particularly the non secular ones, say "what's the version in case you call it a civil union-you're nevertheless getting the privileges?" nicely, i want to ask desirable back at them, "Yeah, what's the version?" Then call it a marriage. they want the satisfaction that incorporates a diverse identify. they prefer booking marriage for straights because of the fact deep down they think of directly relationships are the only quite legitimate ones. we will not have equality, to not point out dignity, till we've precisely a similar rights and privileges as straights. via the way, the fundamentalist churches does not be required to accomplish gay weddings if it have been against their ideals. So what are they apprehensive of?

More on that AZ measure we voted down - it wasn't by a large margin, and although I was pleased, I was wary of giving us too much credit, because the measure also said it would ban benefits for any unmarried couples living together. This played a big part in its failure because we have a lot of senior citizens here who live together but don't marry because they'd lose SS benefits.

However, I later saw that a similar measure in Missouri was posed and passed, so now I think maybe there's more open-mindedness here than I knew.

Here's to hoping.

Yes NH is but I doubt it will pass. Just because the liberal commie Democrats took control of the house and senate for the first time in hundreds of years it is still has huge hurdles to overcome. Even if it passes both chambers (doubtful) I think the governor will veto it. Personally I would like to see it defeated and a same-sex marriage bill pass instead.

P.S. Did you see the full size ad in the Union Leader asking us to call our legislators and asking them to vote for the marriage amendment (defining marriage as being between one man and one woman the only legal marriage) and to vote against the civil union bill?

Are you kidding me?! I live in Virginia. VA not only doesn't want to recognize gay marriages, its legislation is even on the way to making things difficult for straight but non-married couples.

In VA, the right-wingers in charge want everybody to look like Ward and June Cleaver.

i live in california and am in a domestic partnership, which was fairly easy to obtain, just fill out the forms and get them notarized... then we went to court for my partner to adopt my son, which also was fairly easy. i think that we are as close to married as we will be able to get for awhile, we may just be two very old girls when it is legal, but i will take my walker and marry her whenever it is legalized

I live in Texas. We would have more chance to legalize civil unions between cowboys and sheep. I am so ashamed of this state.

Arizona just shot down an ammendment to ban gay marriage. We didn't win the right, but we kept the prejudice at bay.
