three Musketeers are fictional--" The Three Musketeers is a novel by Alexandre Dumas, père.
Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who first appeared in publication in 1887. He was devised by British author and doctor Sir Arthur Conan Doyle."

I think, if I remember correctly, that the three musketeers were real, but the story by Dumas was just fiction, and that Holmes was a fictional character, but was based on a French detective, who was a pioneer in what we would think of as modern detecive work.
