Most often people say they don't like their tails - because you know, they're bald and people are used to furry cat/dog tails *eyes roll*
I think it actually stems from long ago, when mice and rats were just disease carriers - people learned to fear them because their presence meant disease and death - and I'm afraid that fear is now inherant in humans! Not me tho, i've risen above it. Now mosquitoes on the other hand...

Personally I adore mice and rats. I guess one of the major reasons they're feared is because 1) people are raised to fear them, 2) Both are known disease carriers and create a lot of damage and 3) Some people are just wusses XD .
One thing I don't get is the thing about their tails. What's up with their tails are ugly? Geeze. They're great! Just like little monkey tails. Just ... scalier! **Pokes her rats' butts**

The main things I've heard of as reasons are:
- Potential diseases they may carry; fear of getting bit.
- Where there's one mouse, there's usually several more in hiding. Infestation.

I really don't know, but I think that if they're not your pets, you are not expecting them to maybe run across your floor or something....
