The doc will do an xray to make sure that it is broken then he/she will give you some pain killers. Nothing else you can do for a broken rib

Let it heal, and depending on which rib you are talking about, it might also be necessary to place the person's thoracic region on a cast to forbid movement that might cause the rib to puncture a lung.

My ex-coworker fractured two of her ribs while caughing, and since they were not on an area of danger, she was simply told to avoid some movements and just live normally.

Then again, let it heal, the rest all depends.

They might just wrap your rib cage to offer compression.

This will restrict movement to prevent further injury.

It really depends on the severity of the fracture.

Often fractures are just wrapped and left to mend on their own if the bone is in tact.

As long as it is only a fracture and the bone is not displaced it is usually just a case of taking it easy, with no lifting and taking pain killers and letting the bone mend.

Mostly just advise on what not to do until it's healed but, they can wrap a cloth around your rib cage to keep it tight and in place while healing. There are some food diet's to follow some times.

Most will do nothing. Some will tape your ribs and suggest rest and over the counter pain relievers. some might prescribe tylenol with codiene.

They generally do nothing. At times, they will tape your rib cage (run tape around your chest.) There isn't much they can do for that.
