I have an 86 Ford F150 4x4 that will hot start. When I turn the key it rolls over, it just won't fire up. I have poored gas into the carborator (single barrel) and it fires up, so I think it is a fuel problem. There isn't any gas leaking so i'm thinking it is a fuel pump or the fuel filter. I was wanting to get a Helms manual to see where the pump and filter are located and doing the work myself. Any sugestions or Ideas.

My idea and my suggestion is take it to an auto shop. If they say they can fix it -- then they can fix it and you don't have to beat your brains about in vexational depression. All you gotta do is pay the man for a job well done and go have a beer as celebration for not being further vexed. That's what I do . . . works every time . . . and I love being happy.

If you can't hear the pump come on for a couple seconds when the ignition is turned to on,then it's probably a goner. But before you get too carried away, try to check for poor electrical connections both at the tank and under the hood.Spend some time fiddling around and listening for the pump before committing to dropping the tank.

first disconnect the fuel line from the carburetor and place the fuel line in a cup to catch the fuel(if any)crank the engine. If fuel comes out, the problem is the carburetor. If there is no fuel, check the fuel filter and ultimately the fuel pump, which is submerged in the fuel tank. Good luck.
