What is a "poke" on facebook??

When you are trying to look at someones profile on Facebook, it gives you the option to "poke" someone. What does it do? What does the person see when they get "poked"? PLEASE ANSWER!!

It merely tells the recipient they have been poked. that's it!
Many social networking site use similar ways of ... lets face it ... flirting. Its a way of getting someones attention without actually having to do or say anything.

i was reading a page the owner wrote one day and he said even he didn't know what a poke was :)
