My 8 year old daughter who is in 2nd grade took a SAT test last fall when she was 7 and I received the results today. She scored GREAT!!! She has always been able to bring home straight A's on her report cards but when I received the results I was blown away. Most of the categories showed that she was at a 4th grade level. A few said 6th grade level and her grade equivalent for Language is 8th grade level. I'm not bragging if anyone thinks that. I'm just really curious if I should be doing something about this. Is it common for a 2nd grader to recieve results like this? I don't think it is but I don't know. She's my oldest child and I'm new at this. I'd like to ask here first before I speak with her teacher. No need to embarrass myself or my daughter. :) Thanks for your opinions.

It's a Stanford Achievement Test. I'm typing it off the results I just got back.

You are referring to the Stanford Achievement Test? (or possibly the CAT, California Achievement Test). It's good to see she did so well, but scores like that aren't uncommon. It does mean she does better than the average 2nd grader though. However, if her school has been teaching to the test, it may not mean too much.

Well, when I was in sixth grade I took something similar and I scored on a 9th grade level overall, with a few things at the college level. My school didn't think much of it. I don't think 2 grades above means all that much, I wouldn't move her up a grade just because of a test. I would rather be above average in my grade than only average in another.

Talk to her teacher and just ask her teacher what he or she thinks should be done - her teacher is the one that is qualifed to tell you what you need to do. Just approach the teacher and tell the teacher that you have received your daughter's results and you were wondering whether there were any other kids that received the same sort of results, and whether it is normal for a child to receive such results and then take it from there. There is nothing to be embarrased about as you only want what is best for your daughter. Hope this helps and all the best. God Bless You!!
