I have another computer at home, its an HP pavilion and I cant get it to turn on. The thing is, my brother was using the computer last and he went to the nick jr site and then all of a sudden the computer shut off on him. Since then, everytime I turn on the computer it shows the beginning window then all of a sudden goes to a page that gives you the options to go to safe mode, start regularly, etc.. and I tried all of them but it still wont go to the main screen. What do I do? May it be a virus?

Problems that can cause it to shut down in the middle of a boot:
1. Virus
2. weak and failing power supply unit (PSU).
3. faulty hard drive, that is failing
4. 'broken' windows system files.

If you could try starting it up with a LiveCDrom in the CD drive, and it succeeds, then the problem is #1, #3, or #4.
If it doesn't boot, then the problem is most probably #2.

The LiveCDrom to boot up any computer is at http://pclinuxos.com or is any of the 310 LiveCDroms such as DamnSmallLinux, at http://livecdlist.com

A new PSU can cost between $10 and $99 at http://pricewatch.com

Hope all this helps!

Usually with this type of problem, you need to buy a Windows whatever version your computer is (Windows XP) disk and reinstall it on your computer. Safest way is to take your computer to GeekSquad. Have a nice day.

reinstall windows , because if it's going to the select windows option and you cannot load it afterwards the MBR ( master boot record ) has been corrupted
