I am white American and Muslim. Simply put more people dislike my way of life than like it. I wear Hijab ( a head Covering) and I often get stares, rudeness and even harassment. But none of that bothers me. Because I love who I am enough to get beyond what others think. If you love what you do and who you are you will have strength in your decision and you will not need others support. I don't know what life style choice you have made. But you need to loOK at why you made it and if it is worth dealing with the judgment of others. I made my choice for God and no matter what I do, I am ok because I do it for God.

Yes American is no longer a "melting Pot" it is a pressure cooker where you are pressured to live as everyone else does or be an outcast. But when you realize that most people are only pawns to the Media and powerful corporations who profit from there constant need to "keep up with the Jones", it makes it easier to know you are not a pawn also.

How anyone lives their life is no one else's business. It's unfortunate today that we live in a rude and cynical world where everyone minds everyone else's business but their own. The trouble is, most of those people who criticize others are actually revealing thoughts about their own short-comings within themselves. No-one should be required to conform to anyone else's belief system or way of life. If an individual lives his or her life with honesty and respect for others; follows the Golden Rule, so to speak, then that individual should never feel pressured by those who are ignorant or judgmental. Always remember that God loves you as you are... and as you are not... and sometimes even more as you are not.

Don't be sensitive if you know you're doing what's best for you.

I mean, really, the status quo isn't always the best option.

Think about people doing sit-ins for civil rights, people running the Underground Railroad to help slaves escape, women going to work and fighting the glass ceiling.

Nothing will EVER change unless there are people doing something different! Have some conviction! Remind yourself that different can be BETTER.

You just need some more perspective. Read up on your heroes, on people who inspire you. When you see what kind of resistance they faced (or still face), you'll realize that the pain of being ostracized is the price you pay for doing the right thing.

That's assuming you're doing the right thing. Are you? I mean, if you're wrong, then stop. I'd have to agree with the rabble if you were, like, an evil fungus or something.

But if you know in your heart and soul you're right, then keep it up.

You are your own person and own soul. Nobody has the right to judge anybody. People who do that are just ignorant and have issues with themselves--jealousy more than likely. If it's a parent doing this, it's not that they're judging you, they always want to see the best for their child, but sometimes, family can get on your nerves or even be your worst enemy. If it's somebody outside of your immeditately family, they can just go "sit on it," because they don't have a heaven or a hell to put you in, and they're mostly "talking loud and saying nothing."

My advice to you is to start giving people the middle finger. Don't worry about what people say--live your own life and be successful

There isn't an easy answer to this question. But what I think I would do in a situation like this is try not to even deal with the people who are judgmental. If you can do so, then do it. Associate yourself with people who are supportive of you. Keep them close to you, even if it's not very many people.

If it makes you feel any better, tell those people to kiss your *ss and go to hell!

This can be very hard to deal with, especially if you feel no-one is on your side at all.

Stick to your principles, and say why if you can.

It's probably the case that others in that group would also like to break out and may follow your example.

Sounds like you are growing up and becoming independent earlier than your peer group...maybe they will never mature and change.

Good luck!

What else is there to judge someone by except how they live their life? Would it be better if you were judged based on appearance?

When people bother having any sort of reaction to how I live my life, I either laugh it off or shrug it off. The bottom line is I am not living my life to please them so finding out I haven't pleased them doesn't really affect me. Let it go. If you think you are doing the right thing, keep on doing it. You'll either be proven wrong or right in the long run and you will be the one that has to accept the consequences of your choices, not them. Always do what works for you.

I live by the motto that no one pays my bills for me and I have to live with my decisions so I don't give a damn what others think or say and I don't need to conform.

I just don't conform. If people are unhappy with how I live MY life then that's their problem. They should most likely be paying more attention to THEIR life. I just shrug off whatever they say, unless it's something in the work place and then you should go to the boss and say, "Hey this person is saying stuff about me and I don't like it." If the boss is the one saying stuff to/about you then go to the labor board. Other than that if someone is rude to me I try to be polite to them, or avoid them. If I'm nice to them and they're rude to me then they're going to wonder why. And if I avoid them then there's no way they're going to get to me.

just remember that is you and only you who can judge whether your life is lived the way it should be or not. you are the one who will live with your choices. if you are not the cause of pain or inconvenience in their lives then why should their bad opinions of your choices matter? if you don't want their opinions in your life then ignore them or don't be around people who give them.
