why do pet mice smell?

I clean their cage often and even tried buying the potty litter. I wipe them down with bath wipes from the pet store. I dont know what to do? Please help.

Do NOT use cedar bedding. Cedar is toxic to small animals! It has dangerous to their respiratory system and can even cause liver damage!
Male mice smell worse than females. Their urine is stronger smelling. Clean the cage regularly. You can clean everything in bleach water. Just rinse well. It takes the smell away.
I have worked in a pet store for years and used to be a vet tech. Bleach is safe to clean with, just rinse it off well.

Do you have males? The boys stink to high hades, I fear. Females aren't as bad. I found that if I kept a container of baking soda under their cage it cut down on the smell. Air Purifiers really help as does Pine shavings with Chlorophyll. The chlorophyll helped control odor in the case of my rats, so your mice should be okay.

Males are always emitting a smell to mark their territory and there is nothing you can do about it. The best bet is to change the bedding as often as possible and maybe get a brand that is more absorbent such as care fresh or aspen.

That's just the way they are. If you dislike the smell, buy an air freshener. I've got some, so I know. Just don't use any kind of spray- type thing on them.

i guess the more saw dust u have in the cage the less smelly the odour will be cause it soaks up the pee and some of the smell,

I used to have pet mice and mine never smelled, try using cedar chips in their cage and see if this makes a difference.Good luck

They pee and poop and it gets on there fur and all over the cage. Pet mice thats just nasty
