Pretty happy.

He loved his wife and his baby son, and he had the best dog ever.

That poor dog waited until he returned home from 20 years of wandering, then the dog greeted him and dropped dead.

Sssniffff! That's so TOUCHING!

Odysseus was a fairly ordinary guy--he didn't really have any magical powers or whatever, which makes him an interesting main character for a myth. Like Achilles in the story had a goddess mother (or a nymph or something) and she dipped him in the River Styx to make him invincible (except for his heel, which was where he was eventually shot.)

The fact that Odysseus was an average O makes him pretty special. For being ordinary.

But he was pretty rich. Hence all the suitors trying to win Penelope's hand. Wasn't he, like, related to Menelaus? I think he was his cousin or something.

So he was part of the aristocracy. He had enough money to get a boat and a crew, so he clearly had some dough. And it was a good crew, too, until they got turned to pigs.

Then they were a tasty bacon-flavored crew.

Poor O really preferred being at home, I'm sure. Oh, well.

Likety is not only mean but wrong. Homer's story takes a happily married man with a baby son, loving parents and good estate and sends him to the Trojan War for ten years. Then Homer strands him at sea for another ten years.
Ulysses really does not get to spend a lot of time at home.

The Odessy is the Journey of Ulysses, Homer was the story teller. just to avoid confusion. (the greek reference name Odysseus means the "journey maker", *Ulysses* come out more like "man of constant sorrows", or "Man of pain".)

His personal life was supposed to have been very good. His wife was devoted to him and he adored her. He was a beloved king and his men were loyal to him. His life was a little difficult because of the warring between all of the other Greek kings. And times were obviously a little tough for him and his wife during the Trojan war and especially during the 10 years it took him to get home from the war. His wife was besieged by suitors who wanted to marry her so they could be king.
