I don't mean fashion wise. I don't mean wine connesiuers. What I mean is---do they truly understand what good literature is? Do they practice civility? Are they compassionate? Do they usually do the right thing? And if not, what is it about them that draws you to them?

Considering I only count two people as friends (I certainly am not going to include family in this category) I would have to say only one person. The other one tries, but has so many problems I think they would get in the way of making the right decision in certain areas. Overall, they fit the criteria you have established. The main reason that draws me to them is their love/concern/patience for me. They try to understand me and when I mess up they forgive me if I've hurt them or help me to forgive myself. I'm drawn to them because they are genuinely good people who have good values (I think that's a better word than taste) and ethics and try to live up to them.

Not very many people have good tastes, and just that fact draws me to my friends. They are lovely people, but don't always make wise decisions. I'm the one who ends up taking care of them and helping them think this through.
Probably the edginess of them as themselves also draws me to them, since I know they've been through alot worse crap then I have.

I have no friends. As a result I rely on my own taste.
