Depends on when and where.
The Northeast has many great places to visit on a road trip, especially during the autumn.

The coast road in California is also a spectacular drive.

I've heard the Smoky Mountains are lovely as well.

Also depends on what you are looking to do. If you are looking to take a road trip to go party, Boston sure is fun.

I think it depends on what you are wanting to see.
Every place in the USA has something to offer......
be it great 4th of July festivities, great views, museums,
old houses, plantations, historical sites, beaches, parks,
the different halls of fame.....

Personally, I would love to take a road trip up the west coast from Southern California all the way up through Washington.
Lots to see and BEAUTIFUL views.

I hear that a trip down California's Pacific Coast Highway is one that will not be forgotten.

I would highly recommend a road trip from anywhere in the continental US to the Grand Canyon. Spectacular vistas, day and night.

I also understand that a drive to the Floriday Keys is outstanding.

Death Valley!!! The place is great, lots of stuff to see you can even play golf, lots of places to camp, all in a relative small area. The temperatures are high thats true, but if you go before summer it shouldnt be that bad. Also if you drive a little (like us) you can get to Tonopah, Nv great little town, and maybe get some snow.
