He appears to lie around all day in his enclosure and even when he's awake, his eyes are almost always closed. He seems to be drinking a lot of water but not eating his food (dehydrated mealworms and crickets). The skin on his tail looks wrinkled as welI. I am wondering if there is something seriously wrong with him. Any answers would be appreciated.

First, leopard geckos are nocturnal. This means they sleep all day and forage for food at night. Do you have a black light for it? This way, it gets a little heat and you can see it when it eats.

Second, their tail is supposed to be wrinkled. Honest.

Third, they prefer to eat live food. Small crickets (not longer than the distance between the gecko's eyes), and meal worms are preferred. While wax worms are favored - be careful not to spoil your gecko - the wax worms are high in fat. Place a bit of RepCal calcium powder in the dish with the worms - that is beneficial for the gecko to eat.

There are inexpensive soft-cover books on leopard geckos. Next time you go to the pet store - avoid the dehydrated bugs and go for the live ones. Also ask about one of the books - it can really help.

Leopard geckos are nocturnal and eat live food. Try getting him some live meal worms or crickets (at most pet stores) and feeding him before bed. If he still does not eat he may not be hungry or about to go through a shed. They don't really eat before they shed, and they eat the dead skin they shed off. If it is simply the fact that he is not hungry don't worry because they can go almost a month refusing food.

First of all, geckos tend to not like already dead food. Give him some live crickets, meal worms and wax worms and see if he eats those (you can get those at any pet store)/ Also feed a calcium D3 vitamin

Also, what are his temperatures like? His basking sopt should be 90°F, the rest of his cage should be about 80°, falling to around 70° at night. If it is too cold or warm, that could also be a problem.

If the heat is good and he still fails to eat the fresh food, take him to a vet.

good luck

He's nocturnal so he will only play at night. Most leopard gecko will only eat live prey. Try feeding it some live mealworms and crickets. I bet you he wii eat then. I've been raising and breeding leopards for 5 years. If you have any questions feel free to email me brandibear1983@yahoo.com
