I read one article, once, suggesting that a woman who eats a diet rich in dairy and animal protein has a higher chance of having twins than a women whose diet is not rich in those things -- never, ever have I read that anywhere else, heard it corroborated, or, frankly, heard it suggested by anyone, doctor or not. (Edited to add: actually, I've now seen several references and an article in the Journal of Reproductive Medicine, from 2006, reporting a study concluding that women with a diet high in dairy protein particularly are five times more likely to have twins than women who are vegans. There's a link included below to one of the articles.)
I have also read a theory that a diet high in yams (not to be confused with sweet potatoes, which is what you'll find in the supermarkets, even though they're usually labeled as yams) might be linked to an increased incidence of twinning. (The yam theory is based on two things: a Nigerian tribe, that boasts the highest incidence of twinning worldwide, has a diet consisting mostly of yams; scientists have found that yams contain a substance similar to estrogen, which can cause multiple ovulation.)
If you don't have issues with eating those things -- allergic, moral, etc. -- then by all means do it. Personally, I'm....skeptical...to say the least, but, there it is.
The factors that increase the chances of having twins are basically outside of our control. The only factors that are even arguably in our control are weight and the use of fertility drugs.

No.
Twins are formed by one of the following:
a woman released two eggs which are both fertilized (fraternal twins)
a single egg is fertilized but splits into two, sharing the same placenta (identical twins)
a single egg is fertilized by two sperm and splits into two (semi-identical twins... published today on yahoo.com news).
I do believe it is important to become educated about the reproductive system before getting pregnant. You may want to speak with your doctor about any additional questions.

It makes no difference what you eat. If you are destined to have twins you will, no matter what you either do or don't eat.
