A zig zag crack down the side of a house is an indication of a foundation failure of some kind. So with that kind of a failure, one would repair the foundation first.
Tucking is NOT joint repair, joint repair is total removal of old mortar and new mortar put in its place.
On the house in particular, these warrant a 100% clean out of the entire mortar joint of the old cracked mortar. That means you will have to buy a chisel that is very thin so that you can get about 3 inches or more of that mortar out of there. This is a tedious and time consuming job if done porperly. Just to take and surface smear a joint with a mortar mix will ruin your house's appearance and the crack will appear next year after the first winter.
Once you have cleaned out all that broken mortar from that broken joint you need to go to the stone quary and buy a pail of mason's sand. Do not go to Lowes and buy a bag of redi mix mortar. That is not the same thing, and your repair will look badly. So with that masons sand, mix three parts of sand to one part of mortar and add about 1/4 cup of latex hardener and bonder to this mix. Wet down the cleaned joint thoroughly, Then take a large trowel and scoop the mortar to the bricks surface while you totally compact the joint with a small 1/2 inch long blade type trowel filling it. Then just scrape off the surface with your trowel and you are finished for a while.
Wait about 2 hours and then go in there with a grooving tool and cut the grooves and brush the surface clean. Dont make the mistake of trying to groove tool the wet mortar or create a mess by brush cleaning the wet mortar. Wait the 2 hours.

In this situation, some of the bricks can be chipped out and replaced. This technique is called, tuck and pointing. The specific method you use on the house may be different than that you use on the sidewalk.
Depending on the condition of both the house and sidewalk, you may want to use an experienced mason to complete the repairs.

Homes are constructed of picket after which confronted with both brick or stucco. All properties have a fundamental picket constitution. The "face" is something you select it to be. That is how properties are constructed. You can't construct a dwelling from brick on my own wherever that I recognize of except you're constructing a cinder block dwelling and who does that. I don't have any suggestion wherein you're getting your ideas approximately dwelling constructing from however it is unnecessary. You have got to first constitution your dwelling in picket so you'll situation your electric, wiring, heating, air-con, insulation, and so forth. The external is finished in plywood facings with Tyvek form wraps after which you make a decision whether or not you wish your dwelling to be brick or stucco or a siding of a few kind as a rule vinyl in this day and age. It's called tuckpointing. Basically you remove some of the damaged mortar and replace it with new mortar. Some small cracking in mortar joints is fairly normal, but if the cracks are of any real size it could mean that you have some structural problems not to mention water infiltration.
