This is a Briigs & Stratton 18hp cast iron flywheel. I have removed them before but this one is stuck tight! I have the retaining nut off, tried a gear puller to the point of fear of damage, I've heated it with the puller on, while banging it with a 2lb hammer!! Any tip or trick is welcome! I'm soaking it now with wd40. Should I try drilling out the flywheel key? Thanks in advance!!!!!

With the nut off, put two levers (like a pair of large screwdriver) under the flywheel, 180 degrees apart, and push down on them, to lift UP the flywheel... you can feel a few thousandths inch of play up and down. Now, with the flywheel held UP like that, protect the end of the crankshaft (where the nut goes on) with a flat piece of brass or something, and whack it with a hammer. Seriously, it will drive the crankshaft down (it's held up by the levers, remember?) and then it will just lift off. The shaft it mounts to is a taper fit. Outboard motors are the same way. A gear puller can ruin the flywheel.

while the puller is on and under pressure strike the puller shaft with a decent size hammer and it will pop off providing you are using the right puller and the nut is off the end of the crankshaft!

leave the pullers on and tighten....take a good mallet or hard rubber hammer and strike the flywheel numerous times in differnt places making sure puller is tight....then take a good sized hammer and strike puller shaft ...flywheel should just pop off...if it dont just leave pullers on and soak in wd40...keep tightening pullers if they will tighten...strike puller shaft again... repeat both steps until flywheel comes off... do not use torches... the flywheel is on a tapered shaft...it will come off if you keep pressure on it and keep striking flywheel with mallet or hard rubber hammer then strike puller shaft with ball ping hammer

Awwwe com'mon, do it the good ole American way... take a big hammer and beat the heck out of it! Seems to be if nothing else works, that some how hitting it always seems to miraculously make the thing work!
