its very hard work we did ours with wire brush ,good luck.

All these methods, wire brush, drill brush and sand blasting will work but will also cause a lot of deterioration in the brick. If you're expecting them to look like new you're in for a big disapointment.

You can get a bit for a drill with a wire brush head on it , it's a long job but quicker than a hand brush .

You might want to ask someone at Home Depot, they might make a chemical that you can apply that will strip it off.

try a sandblaster.
