2 options:

1. A router connecting to your computer and xbox for easy access.

2. A direct link to your console through a cable going through your modem.

If you want BOTH your PC & your XBox to be online at the same time, you'll want to invest that $50-$100 (pending on model) for that router. Otherwise, you can just disconnect your PC & connect it to your XBox.

The reason why I suggest buying a router is that gives you the convienence of having multiple systems (PC's & consoles) online & it saves you the hassle of climbing behind your computer every time you want to play on XBox live (& vice versa).

A router also gives you room to grow, so if you pick up an extra computer (like a friend's) or another game system, you can just plug into the router without unplugging something else. It's a pretty good investment to prevent hassles.

basically what the other guy said, but ill put in easier terms, you can either: A, plug your ethernet into your xbox from you cable modem, or B, plug your ethernet into the router and then have another ethernet plug into your xbox, the router is better cause you can plug and unplug ethernet cords without messing up your internet connections and having to reset everything! hope that helped : )
