I used to own an Oldsmobile Alero and when my coolant light came on, it usually meant that I needed some coolant. So that my car did not overheat.

If the radiator and overflow bottle reservoir are both filled properly, it's likely you have a bad sensor indication. I've had one on my Ford and never bothered to fix it. Instead I just check the coolant levels routinely as we always did before cars had coolant level sensors. Some cars have caps on both the coolant overflow bottle and on top of the radiator, so you need to remove both caps to do a complete check. The radiator should be completely full.

It means the coolant level is low in the plastic reservoir. Normally that indicates a leak.

Before you would know this, you first must check your system to see if you have low coolant. You may have a faulty sensor. If you do, yes you have a leak, or something in your engine is causing the coolant to vanish. If you are not versed in this field, please leave it to the pros's. Just be sure its one you trust. And Please, do not be afraid to get a second or third opinion.

Depends on how often you have to put Coolant in your radiator. Could be a sensor, could be running into your oil pan, could be leaking around the water pump. It means a lot of things.

It means you need a refill, the same coolant doesnt stay in there forever, i wouldnt worry about a leak until it still says low after the refill.

It means the coolant system is low, and a leak is possible. fill the system and check for leaks. let the system cool first then fill and check for leaks after it reaches operating temperature.

Maybe, that's what garages are for, but put a newspaper under the car when its parked, and you should see a set stain if it is leaking. You can get hurt if you put a newpaper under it when its moving.
