AVG Free is the best anti-virus out there right now. Norton is total junk, uses up a lot of system resources and you have to pay for it. Avast is another free anti-virus, which is still good, but personally I like AVG. You can download AVG from the link below. There is absolutely no spyware.

AVG has excellent protection, does not require a college degree to install, the default installation is all you normally need, it tells you when there are error to correct, uses heuristic analysis like Norton but run underneath and can scan silently while you are using other programs. Autoupdating of system files, can be set to do a longer less intensive scan to involve the memory most softly if you do heavier computing. Not only is the free program one of the best I've ever seen (never try Panda and I'm not happy with McAfee ever), there is Anti-spyware capability available in Downloads.
Mind you that these are not going to have support other than a discussion forum if you get them 'free', but if you really NEED to purchase the full program (you can read about the differences easily on the site) it would be worth it. If you are anything but a private user, like government or a business, you MUST buy it.
When the go to the newest version, not just an update, you will get plenty of notice to change over. Even without tech support, I could not be any happier with Grisoft. This company rocks.

One thing you should know that most free antivirus don't have tech support and they lacks some features that are found only in the paid versions. Having said that there are free antivirus apps that can do a good job. I've tried the free Avg and Avast for years and finally decide to get rid of them about 2 years ago. There's a better antivirus that i am using right now : AVIRA Antivir PE here http://www.free-av.com/ >>>It's free and it works much better than avg or avast. Don't take my word for it try all of them out and you'll see why i am using Avira.
