Sit comfortably with your eyes closed. Relax and feel the energy of you body flow with every breath. This will take practice, but eventually you will be ably to feel this life energy. Once you feel it in your breath, follow it throughout your body. Guide it through sore and tense muscles, helping them relax.

Reach outside yourself for energy. Feel it moving through the earth, air, water and fire. Earth is easiest at first because it is strong and slow and steady. Channel your center down, down into the earth. Let your own energies flow into the ground. Hold back nothing, the earth will give back much more than you give into it. Feel it steady you. Make you strong. When you are ready to come back from the meditation, just slowly bring your awareness back to your breathing. Let the energy return to it's natural flow. Remind yourself of your surroundings and get up fresh and energized. Hope I helped!

There is allot of GREAT information on the net about different types of meditation. And one might be really great for you and the the other... well not so much. Start as soon as you can, and maybe with only 5 or 10 mins of quiet meditation then try to work your way up to 20 or 30min.

Here are the basics.

1) Sit with your spine straight... this can be on a chair or the floor with your legs crossed or even lying down (careful tho it's easy to fall asleep!)

2) Empty your mind. - now thats the really tough part and really what all the different methods are about. Your mind is like child who can't sit still. So distract your mind! Use music, concentrate on a candle, focus on breath, find a mantra, take a walk, paint a picture, watch a sunset....

You get the point =)

A great book is 'Journy of Awakening' by Ram Dass.
Tells you what to do, what to expect.
That there really is no 'wrong' way. Whatever works for you.
I also like to use cd's from the Monroe Institute. They use something called 'hemi sync' technology. I have used a bunch of tapes etc. over the years, and these are the best. You can get them with verbal or non verbal sounds.

Just sit quietly and listen to soothing music. And every time a thought comes into your head, push it out. Make your mind completely blank.

The question you should be asking is: "Why do I want to meditate?"

Once you consider that deeply, you'll probably answer the question you HAVE asked.
