Yes it is quite harmful to sit behind a comp screen for long periods of time. I work with vdu screens and they can be harmful and cause headaches if worked with on a day to day basis. I would have regular eye tests and make sure you tell the optician you use comp screens as you can have glasses purely for screen use.Tip: always take ten Min's looking away from the screen every one hour, just take a walk around or get a drink this will help your eyes focus on other things.

about 60 years in the past, at the same time as television began getting properly-known, TVs were discovered to emit x-rays that were considered risky in case you sat 2 feet from the reveal screen. starting up about the mid Nineteen Fifties, TVs were made with a particular form of glass in the front of the tube that reduce down those x-rays (it also secure antagonistic to flying glass if the photo tube broke, which handed off each now and then). Then they developed photo tubes that used a lot less voltage and the region became even a lot less. interior the Seventies, study were executed of computing gadget video reveal instruments, because such an outstanding form of human beings were now sitting a million feet. faraway from all of them day. They got here up with criteria, and each and each few years the criteria are tightened. the chance in the present day is virtually non-existent. The worst ingredient you will get from a computing gadget video reveal is eyestrain. If it really bothers, you, get an lcd video reveal. they haven't any intense voltage, so no x-rays.

Doing ANYTHING for long periods of time is harmful...

Generally the advice is a 10-15 minute break every hour... and change position as much as possible

I think its 3hrs on and 1/2 hour off. I don't know anyone who actually works like this. Once I'm in front of the screen I only rise to eat , drink or defecate, so stick a kettle on one side, a microwave on the other and a bucket in the middle. Oh and find a good optitian.

Laptops use LCD monitors which are less harmful to your eyes.
CRT monitors on the other hand are much worse on your eyes and emit potentially harmful radiation.

Take a break every couple of hours. Look away from it often too. Your eyes need the rest.

Yes it is. You can tire your eyes out. You can pool up blood in your behind. Your ankles can swell from lack of use. Your brain can turn to mush.
