After 1959 no they were hand crafted up to that date after which they were mass produced that's why a dealer will pay much more for a pre 1960 ROLEX go to any auction house and you can buy poste 1960 watches £100 £150 but have to pay 3 - 4 times more for pre 1960

Well I guess that depends how much money you have. Purchasing jewelery that is made with precious metals can sometimes be looked upon as an investment such as a gold watch, but that's not always the case.
I own a Breitling which would be same category as Rolex watches and I have to say that it is by far the best time piece I have owned. It's big, shiny and the quality is second to none. The only problem I have is that I keep smashing it up against things like walls or my car, so if scratching or smashing a 7 thousand dollar watch doesn't bother you then you should be okay.
It's a hard question to answer because you can get a watch that works just as well for under a hundred bucks. Unless you've got thousands of dollars just sitting around burning a hole in your pocket I would say no it's not worth it. On the other hand, if you're house, porshe and yacht are paid off and you've got a watch fetish you can't control then I would say yes it is.

That depends on the person buying it and what they want. I own Rolex watches because they are designed to last over 200 years and I know I can hand them down to my kids, their kids, etc. Rolex's are solid stainless and/or gold, not plated so scratches can always be buffed out.
On the other hand, you could buy a LOT of cheaper watches that work quite well and look nice for the same money as a Rolex, so I still think it's a personal decision whether it's worth it for you.

On 10 March 1943, while still a prisoner of war, Corporal Clive James Nutting, one of the organizers of the Great Escape, ordered a stainless steel Rolex Oyster 3525 Chronograph (valued at a current equivalent of £1,200) by mail directly from Hans Wilsdorf in Geneva, intending to pay for it with money he saved working as a shoemaker at the camp.[30][32][33] The watch (Rolex watch no. 185983)[33][34] was delivered to Stalag Luft III on 10 July that year along with a note from Wilsdorf apologising for any delay in processing the order and explaining that an English gentleman such as Corporal Nutting "should not even think" about paying for the watch before the end of the war.[

They tend to be a good investment since the value doesn't drop too quickly. They can also be handed down for generations. I bought mine and wore it for almost three years. I sold it to a local jeweler and MADE $300 on it. The price of gold is going up, so the watch, though used, got me a good price.
The other thing to keep in mind is that people rag on luxury watches as being a waste of money. However, the value of watch (when you know what you're buying), doesn't necessarily mean you're losing money on it. My husband and I invest in watches that we know the value will go up. A lot of other people will invest into a brand new BMW, which we all know won't be worth half its selling cost in a few years. Same with electronics. Many people buy flat screen tvs, but if they needed to sell it off, wouldn't get nearly what they paid for it.
If you buy a Rolex, you may not make money on it, but the resale value is so much a higher percent than most other things we "invest" our money into.

YES!!! To get the most value purchase your Rolex new or pre-owned at a dealer such as SantBlanc.com. That will save you thousands and you will have a better chance of it increasing in value.

Since you say you have a great deal of money and it does not bother you to buy a Rolex, then buy it.
