Indeed, I remember back then music was something that just sort of happened (I was only 7 or 8), then the kid from next door (who was probably a year or so older than me) came round and said he had heard Gary Glitter had just died. This saddened me somewhat for some reason, then I found out later in the day it was actually Elvis who had died and I was terribly confused. I lived a sheltered life you see and could only just recognise a Gary Glitter song but couldn't think of any by Elvis. My what a heathen child I must have been...

No Gary Glitter was always ugly and spoke terrible
where as Elvis had charm and spoke nicely and certainly sang better than tacky glitter ever could
